ADJUNCT NURSING FACULTY MEMBER - CLINICAL NURSING INSTRUCTOR
POSITION SUMMARY
The adjunct clinical nursing instructor supervises all clinical activities of an assigned group of students at on- and off-campus clinical experiences in accordance with the course description and syllabus established by the faculty and administered by the department head.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Oversee activities of patient care and ensure optimal level of care in clinical setting.
- Knowledge and ability to use medical equipment (e.g. IV pumps, monitors, oxygen delivery systems, etc).
- Knowledge of nursing concepts, terminology and techniques.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Assist student nurses to adjust to peer clinical group and ensure optimal work performance in assigned ward.
- Role model professionalism and ensure that students meet RSU nursing professionalism standards.
- Ensure that students use methods to minimize infection and contamination.
- Train all students to identify signs of patient health deterioration and of clinical equipment malfunction to achieve course objectives.
- Coordinate with students and manage all communication to provide optimal level of learning through practical training.
- Assist nurse managers and academic staff to analyze student requirements and ensure appropriate resources in facility.
- Prepare student assignments and ensure compliance to academic course programs and evaluate performance of assigned students in clinical training.
- Develop and maintain good professional relations with students, employees of nursing schools and clinical affiliates.
- Collaborate with academic programmers and facilitate post conferences in clinical settings.
- Provide feedback to nursing students to ensure optimal quality of work.
- Provide consultation for nursing education programs.
- Assist full-time faculty with on-campus laboratory and simulations, optionally and as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide supplemental support to faculty in the clinical setting.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master of Science Degree in Nursing
- Experience in a higher education setting
- Experience teaching in a nursing program leading to RN licensure
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
- Present evidence of current practice with a minimum of two (2) years full-time equivalent practice as a Registered Nurse in a clinical setting preceding the first date of first employment as at teacher
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
- Ability to coordinate and implement assignments in order to meet faculty and student needs
- Ability to lift, move and carry laboratory equipment and manikins
- Ability to assume new responsibilities and carry them out in an effective manner
- Ability to maintain safety and hygiene standards
LICENSES:
Nursing:
- Hold a valid, unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Oklahoma
- Possess current American Heart Association CPR certification (Basic Life Support).
SUPERVISION GIVEN TO: n/a
REPORTS TO: Receives general supervision from the Undergraduate Program Coordinator and Department Head, Health Sciences. Coordinates assignments and communicates with lead full-time course faculty member for the course/student level to which assigned.
